Thursday, May 11 from 6-9pm at Champion Brewing RVA

The Pledge of Allegiance of the United States is a familiar pledge spoken at events across the country and the start of congressional sessions and governmental meetings:

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Those last three words are important. They don't say "justice for some" or "justice if you can afford legal representation," but rather: "justice for ALL."

Commonwealth Law Group is honored to be the presenting sponsor of the 2017 Justice for Ale fundraising event. The event raises funds to assist low-income individuals who may not be able to afford legal representation but need help resolving legal matters. The annual fundraiser will take place on Thursday, May 11 from 6-9 p.m. and is FREE and open to the public.

Please join us at Champion Brewing RVA at 401 E. Grace Street, which is generously donating 10% of its beer sales to benefit two important organizations: The Central Virginia Legal Aid Society (CVLAS) and the Legal Aid Justice Center (LAJC), which both provide legal representation to low-income individuals in Virginia. In addition to learning more about these two organizations, hearing stories about those who have benefited from their services, and enjoying some delicious craft beer, music will be provided by Prabir.

Both the CVLAS and LAJC seek equal justice for all people who need civil (not criminal) legal assistance throughout the Richmond and Central Virginia area. This type of legal assistance can include legal representation in circumstances such as eviction, foreclosure, bankruptcy, no-fault divorce, domestic violence, employment discrimination, elder law (including wills and powers of attorney), in addition to representing children, the homeless and the elderly in a variety of civil cases.

"Justice for Ale is a great fundraiser for a very important reason: protecting our citizens who don't have the financial resources to do so themselves," said Jamie Karek, founding partner of CLG. "We've been sponsoring this fundraiser for four years, and we always have a great time while we help to fund these two important non-profit organizations that undertake such important work."

Since 1967, the Legal Aid Justice Center has provided low-income individuals in Virginia with legal representation. Their mission is "to seek equal justice for all by solving clients' legal problems, strengthening the voices of low-income communities, and rooting out the inequities that keep people in poverty."

The Central Virginia Legal Aid Society was formed in 1971 to provide free legal assistance to people in the Richmond and Central Virginia area. One of its tenets is, "The true measure of a society is how we treat our children, the elderly, disabled and poor."

Join us on Thursday evening, May 11 at Champion Brewing RVA, 401 E. Grace Street, to support these two organizations that provide free legal aid for your neighbors and fellow citizens in Central Virginia!
