Courtney Jones is one of your first points of contact when you call or visit Commonwealth Law Group. As the firm's Receptionist, she keeps communications going strong on the phone, by mail, via fax and by email. We asked her a few questions:

How long have you been with CLG? I joined the firm on October 31, 2017 as the Receptionist. What a fun day to start – on Halloween!

Why do you like working here? The firm has a great reputation and is filled with so many people who exhibit strong character with their every word or action. I believe in the importance of having a strong character myself. I always think of this quote by John Wooden: "Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are."

Commonwealth Law Group has a great reputation and rightly so ? it is filled with so many people of strong character. CLG embraces everyone exactly as they are. I'm happy to be here among all of these wonderful characters!

What's your greatest strength? I'm very analytical, and I'm organized, even though the amount of paperwork that comes across my desk doesn't always make it look that way.

Are you a night owl or a morning person? Night owl, for sure. Though I'm usually the first person here in the mornings – go figure!

What's your typical workday like? After I catch up on news in the morning, I drive to work blasting my favorite songs to start the day off right. When I get here, I turn on all the lights and check to make sure everything in the kitchen is stocked and ready for the day. We all enjoy a cup or two of strong coffee to get us going in the mornings, right? Then the phones start ringing, clients and other visitors come into the office, and a lot of information and communication comes across my desk.

A major part of my workday is processing CLG's mail ? we get many pieces per day. I scan each document so that we have a digital copy, then assign a barcode to it so our attorneys can reference it electronically when necessary. That's an intense, time-consuming task but it's important to have copies of interrogatories, accutane online stories legal orders, and medical records that can be crucial to processing a case. We're very thorough record-keepers. My job is to make sure everything is accounted for and as perfect as it can be. I take it very seriously.

What's your proudest moment at CLG? A lot of times when our clients call us they've been through a difficult time. It's confusing, they're frustrated, so I always try to make them smile if I can. I try to add a level of comfort by reassuring them that we're on their team and we're taking good care of their case. I try to be a calming, helpful presence. Whenever someone lets me know that I've helped them, that's a great moment.

What was your best vacation ever? I went to Myrtle Beach last summer with my grandmother, who had not been since she was much younger. We sat out on the beach for hours while she enjoyed the view, the scent of the ocean and the breeze, and I enjoyed getting a tan. We ate out at several different restaurants, and I took her to a museum ? I believe it was her first visit to a museum. She sacrificed a lot in her life so that I could be successful; she is the most selfless person you could ever meet. It was wonderful to take her back to Myrtle Beach. I don't think I've ever seen her so happy in my entire life. She holds a deep place in my heart, and I plan on helping her accomplish everything else on her bucket list.

What do you do to relax after the workday/workweek? I watch movies or talk to my girlfriends. I enjoy a good laugh to bring me back to reality after a long week of working.

Do you have a favorite movie? Rush Hour is my favorite movie. Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker crack me up!

Why do have a pair of shoes in a display case on your desk? The shoes are a visual cue to remind us all that when clients call, and they are upset or frustrated, we need to put ourselves in their shoes. We can't imagine what they've gone through. Many of them have been hurt at work or in a car accident and are frustrated that they can't get back to work immediately or that their case is taking longer than they'd hoped. The shoes are a good reminder for us to take a walk in our clients' shoes so we can be more empathetic and understanding. Everyone deserves a great experience when they call us, and that's what we aim to provide.
